چکیده
Understanding plasma/complex surfaces interactions in NSTX with liquid lithium on thin porous molybdenum substrate for the divertor, additional PFC surfaces such as carbon tiles, and the presence of gases and impurities require integrated implementation and the interplay of detail various physical processes. These include simultaneous and multiple ion species penetration and mixing, scattering, reflection, physical and chemical sputtering and/or compound formation, dynamic surface evolution/modification, thermal diffusion and segregation, and recombination/desorption of species in this multi-component surface

Integrated models to study the impact of ELMs and disruptions on lithium in the NSTX divertor
Lithium as a potential plasma-facing material has many attractive features including a reduction in recycling of hydrogenic species and ability to withstand high heat and neutron fluxes in fusion reactors. Recent analysis of the National Spherical Torus eXperiment (NSTX) device has shown significant and recurring benefits of lithium coatings on plasma-facing components performance. To self-cons...

Lithium has enhanced the operational performance of fusion devices such as: TFTR, CDX-U, FTU, T-11 M, and NSTX. Lithium in the solid and liquid state has been studied extensively in laboratory experiments including its erosion and hydrogen-retaining properties. Reductions in physical sputtering up to 40– 60% have been measured for deuterated solid and liquid lithium surfaces. Computational mode...

In this paper, the dynamic behavior of laser induced optical breakdown in impure water was studied by using a pump- probe technique. The plasma was induced by a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser pulse (with pulse duration ~10 ns) in distilled water with two types of impurities: (I) a solution (highly diluted salt water as a conductor) and (II) a colloidal (TiO2 in colloidal nanoparticle form as a dielectric...

The US Advanced Limiter-divertor Plasma-facing Systems (ALPS) program is developing the science of liquid metal surface divertors for near and long term tokamaks. These systems may help solve the demanding heat removal, particle removal, and erosion issues of fusion plasma/surface interactions. ALPS combines tokamak experiments, lab experiments, and modeling. We are designing both static and fl...
متن کاملDynamic Simulation of Materials Modification and Deuterium Retention in Tokamak Fusion Environment
The ability of plasma-facing materials (PFM) in fusion reactor to withstand subsequent erosion as well as deuterium and tritium accumulation depends on material properties, which will continuously be changed during reactor operation. Variation in plasma parameters, using various materials for coating of reactor walls, e.g., Be for the first wall and W and C for the divertor area, and the presen...
